WASHINGTON: A moderate 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck 26 miles north-northwest of San Jose, Costa Rica, on Friday and was felt as a strong tremor in the capital of the Central American nation, the US Geological Survey and witnesses said.
The quake had a depth of 60.9 miles, the USGS said. The agency initially reported the quake at 5.5 magnitude.
There were no immediate reports of damage. Earthquakes of that magnitude can cause considerable destruction. –Reuters
