Saleem Shahzad apprised Nick Clegg about the aims and objectives of MOM and its struggle as a liberal and democratic political party in Pakistan working for the people of poor and middle class, said a statement issued by MQM on Tuesday.
He informed the British Deputy Premier that MQM was struggling to establish an equitable system in Pakistan free from corruption and extremism.
He told him that MQM believes in equal rights for all the citizens without discrimination of religion, caste, colour and creed.
Saleem Shahzad also informed Nick Clegg about the murder of MQM’s former convener Dr. Imran Farooq and sought help in arresting the murderers.
Nick Clegg expressed sorrow over the murder of Dr. Imran Farooq and assured that the British Police was utilising all means to arrest the murderers.
Earlier, Nick Clegg attended a ceremony in Sheffield organised by members of Pakistani community and appreciated the NGOs and welfare organisations for their activities for relief of the needy.
Representatives from several welfare organisations including the Society for Unwell and Needy (SUN) of MQM participated in the ceremony in large numbers.
Nick Clegg appreciated the role of SUN and several other welfare organisations in Britain.
The Organiser of MQM UK and trustee of SUN shed light on the activities of SUN through a brief film. He informed that SUN had sent relief goods worth millions of rupees to Pakistan.
The British Deputy Premier said that the flood that hit Pakistan was the worst in its history and Britain has already doubled its assistance for Pakistan.
He added that Britain was stressing upon other European countries to help Pakistan in order to meet the challenges triggered by the disaster.
