SC establishes a steering committee of lawyers-court dispute

A full bench headed by Chief Justice Supreme Court, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry advised the judges to end the strike and called the ‘judge’s strike’ a violation of discipline.

According to details, many lawyers were arrested by the police from the court room of the Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice on 30 September, on allegations of violence and aggression.

The police have done things against the arrested lawyers, the lawyers continued their protest after the police came to a bar and tortured by lawyers.

Supreme Court took suo moto notice against the police action.

On Monday, Supreme Court called the head of Punjab Police, Tariq Jamil Dogar, DCO and Attorney General of Punjab along with Advocate General of Punjab and representatives of lawyer’s alliances.

Video of police torture, was played in court that the Punjab police chief grilled over the incident. The Court held that the police used brutal force against lawyers.

The court also refused to transfer the District Judge Zawwar Hussain Shah and established a three-member committee to investigate and resolve the matter between lawyers and their respective courts.

Former Justice of the LHC Justice Allah Nawaz will lead the committee vice-chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council Muhammad Kazim Khan, along with former President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Ali Ahmed Kurd.
