Police protect US consulate from angry protesters

us consulate protestKarachi: a demonstration organized by Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) against the decision of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from U.S. court turned violent Friday when police resorted to baton charge and fired teargas shells to stop a number of activists marched to the Consulate General here US.
Almost one-hour confrontation between demonstrators and police began when the activists of the IJT score started to march towards the U.S.
Consulate General in Regal Chowk. They reached the end of the combine Fatima Jinnah Road and Share Faisal, when a heavy contingent of police to stop them.
Holding placards and shouting slogans in a massive anti-US demonstrators against the movement and the police tried to continue the march towards the U.S. consulate. This triggered a violent reaction by the police who resorted to baton charge and fired teargas shells to break up the demonstrators.
