Pakistan, Islamabad News : Chairman National Assembly’s Special Committee on Kashmir, Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman has said that peace in South Asia is directly linked to relations between India and Pakistan.
He said the international community should make sincere efforts to get the kashmir issue resolved as per aspirations of the people of Kashmir and relevant Resolutions of the UN Security Council, as both India and Pakistan are bound to hold a plebiscite in Jammu & Kashmir under these resolutions for the settlement of this dispute.
He was talking to Head of the Task Force on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Dr.Thomas Zahneisen at the German Foreign office in Berlin, said a press release issued here Friday.
He said that Kashmir dispute was a main irritant in Pak-India relations and Pakistan had always sought solution of all issues with India through negotiations but India stopped composite dialogue unilaterally taking a refuge under trivial excuses.
He briefed Dr. Thomas and officials of the German Foreign Office about the ongoing military operation against terrorists and militants in Tribal Areas of Pakistan and said it was responsibility of the International community to put pressure on India to stop cross border firing on the Line of Control (LoC) when Pakistan was engaged on its western border against the terrorists.
Dr. Thomas Zahneisen said that since one cannot change one’s family and neighbor, therefore, solution of any issue between the neighbors lied in negotiations as wars never provided any solution except destruction.
During recent bilateral talks between Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, both the leaders agreed that solution of Indo-Pakistan issues lied in broad based negotiations and the German Chancellor assured the Prime Minister that Germany would play its role for the recommencement of Composite Dialogue between india and Pakistan, he added.
Dr. Thomas appreciated the fact that Pakistan had taken the position of finding settlement of all issues including the issue of Kashmir through dialogue with India and said that Germany would continue to support a negotiated settlement of issues between India and Pakistan.
Maulana Fazl Ur Rehman also held a meeting with the representatives of Kashmiri and Pakistani Communities living in germany.
He briefed them about the latest situation in Kashmir and Pakistan’s position on the issue.
He said that UN Security Council’s Resolutions on Kashmir as well the International Community admitted and declared it a dispute that needs to be resolved on the principles of justice and fairplay but no nation was ready to talk of principles leaving aside its interests both economic and political.
He said that Shimla Agreement between India and Pakistan did not negate the international status of this dispute that was long outstanding issue on the agenda of the UN Security Council but emphasized on bilateral talks which were never held till date.
Replying to a question from the participants, Maulana Fazl ur Rehman said the international community should ponder over it, England could hold referendum in Scotland on the question of its continuation as part of England or as a separate homeland then why it could not be held in Kashmir. – APP
