Pakistan, Islamabad News : Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has urged the nation to join hands to fight against discrimination and fanaticism.
“My government has always endeavored to promote national unity and to build Pakistan as a great nation according to the vision of Quaid-i-Azam,”the Prime Minister said in his message on the occasion of International Human Rights Day (Dec.10).
He said that the government is steadfastly working towards establishing equality for all human beings and an environment of peaceful co-existence and non-discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, color, sex, race and religion.
He said that pakistan is currently encountered by multiple challenges particularly terrorism, adding that as a responsible state Pakistan is fully cognizant of its regional and international commitments and intends to implement Human Rights related Conventions in true letter and spirit.
The Prime Minister said the government is also committed to alleviate poverty and to create jobs for young people from all walks of life, adding, through this conducive environment is being created for youth to become a part of the nation building process.
The Prime Minister endorsed commemoration of International Human Rights Day as a symbol of recognition of universal human rights. He said that since the adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948, this day reminds all nations of the world to adhere to protecting inviolable human rights and preserve human values.
“I however wish to mention that much before the adoption of Human Rights Declaration by UN our sacred faith Islam has exhorted human beings to follow tenets of human values,” the Prime Minister added.
He said the government has embarked upon undertaking a number of legislative measures to protect Human Rights, adding that an utonomous National Commission on the Status of Women has been established, while establishment of National Commission for Human Rights is in process.
He said the government also acknowledges the efforts made by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights towards protection and promotion of Human Rights. The Prime Minister said that the commemoration of International Human Rights Day will instill profound adherence of its underlying spirit.
The Prime Minister congratulated Pakistan International Human Rights Organization for the meritorious efforts they have rendered since the last decade and a half in this regard. – APP
