PM Nawaz urges UN’s Ban to resolve Kashmir dispute

Pakistan News : Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has urged the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to take steps for the peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the elevant resolutions of UN Security Council. 

In a meeting with Ban Ki-moon here on the sidelines of 69th UN General Assembly session, the Prime Minister pointed out that Kashmir was one of the long-standing conflicts on the agenda of Security Council.

Nawaz Sharif told the UN Secretary General that his government had sincerely embarked on negotiation process with India for the peaceful resolution of all disputes.  He expressed dismay over the cancellation of foreign secretary-level talks by India and termed it a setback to the dialogue process.

He hoped that the Indian leadership would resume the dialogue process without any delay in the interest of peace and prosperity in the region. Ban Ki-moon fondly recalled his visit to Islamabad in August last year and his participation in the Independence Day celebrations of Pakistan.  The Secretary General told that he was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the Government of Pakistan.

He expressed his concern over the loss of lives and devastation caused by floods in Pakistan.  The Prime Minister apprised the Secretary-General on the efforts undertaken by his government to provide relief to the flood victims in the affected areas.

He told the Secretary General about his government’s current efforts to flush out terrorists and dismantle their networks. The ongoing military operations against terrorists had disrupted their command and control system.

The Government has zero tolerance for terrorism and is determined to root out terrorist forces once and for all, he added. The two leaders welcomed the completion of electoral process in Afghanistan and the agreement over the appointment of the new President and Chief Executive.  The Prime Minister expressed his readiness to work with the new government in Afghanistan for peace and development in the region.
