Pakistan, Flood News Updates : In line with the direction of the Prime Minister, National Disaster and Management Authority (NDMA) has initiated work on Multi Initial Rapid Assessment (MIRA) for flood affected districts in collaboration with the UN System.
The assessment would be carried out in most of affected districts including Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Chiniot, Jhang and Multan as identified by the PDMA Punjab.
The main purpose of the assessment is to identify damages to the community infrastructure, recovery needs & restoration requirements. NDMA would coordinate and facilitate PDMA in carrying out this assessment. The assessment report will be finalized jointly by NDMA and UNOCHA, said a statement which issued here.
NDMA is regularly and constantly coordinating with all departments concerned to ensure timely precautionary evacuations and rescue and provision of relief to the rain and flood affected people.
The heavy water flow after passing through head Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad and Trimmu on River Chenab is now steadily heading towards Punjnad headworks.
The provincial, district and local civil administration are taking all necessary precautionary measures to ensure effective strategy to cope with eventuality which may arise with the entrance of flood discharge.
NDMA teams are also in the field and coordinating with local administration in rescue and relief efforts to avert damage to life and property.
People have been evacuated through active participation of Pakistan Army, Rescue 1122 and other departments, however, evacuation of stranded people is still underway. So far, 276681 persons have been evacuated.
Aerial monitoring of flood is also being carried out regularly through army helicopters to review protective arrangements. Flood control centers have been established to monitor expected flood situation.
So far, NDMA has provided 20,000 tents, 10,000 plastic mats, 20,000 blankets, 471,000 aqua tablets, 30 mobile filtration plants, 31 boasts and 100 life jackets to Punjab, 3,000 tents 1000 blankets and 1500 plastic mats to AJK as well as 200 tents, 1000 blankets and 3 boasts to ICT and 275 tents to GB. – APP
