Pakistan, Karachi News : Major General Rizwan Akhtar, Director General Sindh Rangers, said on Monday that flight operations from Karachi airport can be resumed from afternoon.
Briefing media after hours-long operation to clear Karachi airport following a brazen midnight attack, Akhtar said that the airport has been clear but we have told Civil Aviation Authority as a precautionary measure that they can only resume flight operations from afternoon.
He said that terrorists appear to be Uzbeks, adding they will carry out DNA tests to confirm their identity.
Major General Akhtar said four personnel each of Sindh Rangers and Sindh Police are injured while eight personnel of the Airport Security Force are still in critical condition.
He said a total of 10 terrorists attacked the airport of which seven were killed in operation while three terrorists blew themselves up.
It may be mentioned that heavily armed militants, some of them wearing security uniforms, stormed Jinnah International Airport’s cargo area Sunday night, martyring at least 14 people including ten security men, two Civil Aviation Authority employees, and one bystander as flights were suspended and the army was called in.
