35th Anniversary Of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s Death, Dubai: Supporters of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) organised a function in Dubai to mark the 35th anniversary of the death of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, founder of the PPP and father of the late Benazir Bhutto.
The event was organised by senior PPP leader in the UAE Sardar Javed Yaqoob who is also Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
Bhutto was hanged in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore on April 4, 1979 after a murder trial held in the martial law tenure of General Zia ul Haq.
“He was great political leader and thinker who was murdered for his support for democracy,” said Asif Hashmi, a senior PPP leader who worked with Bhutto. He said that Bhutto gave common man the right to speak against the feudal system.
Bhutto served as the ninth Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977, and prior to that as the fourth President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973.
He served as PPP chairman until his execution.
