Pakistan News : Thousands of people converged on Ring Road in Peshawar Saturday to take part in a protest sit-in being staged by PTI-led ruling coalition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against US missile strikes.
Hundreds of PTI workers and supporters have joined the sit-in from Lahore, D.I.Khan, Islamabad, Charsadda, Mandi Bahauddin and Faisalabad.
Strict security measures have been taken on this occasion. Ring Road and other routes have been closed for traffic while Torkham border has also been blocked.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Jehangir Tarin, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed have reached the stage. Senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch is expected to reach the venue shortly.
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Rasheed said: “We are dying of Hepatitis, TB, inflation and missile attacks.” The government has ruined the country’s economy by raising prices of petrol to a record level, he said.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif doesn’t know what the price of tomatto is. Today democracy is facing a threat from democracy,” he said.
