Pakistan, Islamabad News : Supreme Court of Pakistan has accepted the new dates for Local Body Elections from Election Commission of Pakistan.
A three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the petition seeking delay in the local bodies elections today. During the hearing, the court approved the new schedule suggested by the ECP.
The ECP had earlier written a letter to the Registrar of SC, proposing new dates for the LB elections.
The letter was written by the Director General ECP to the SC Registrar, suggesting new dates for the polls. According to the schedule proposed by the ECP, the local bodies elections could be held on January 30, 2014 in Punjab and January 18 in Sindh. Moreover, local bodies election in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were proposed in the month of February.
The ECP, in its letter, further stated that the polls are being arranged on December 7 in Balochistan following the court’s orders.
