Islamabad: A suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a police station in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, killing at least 17 people, police said, the third in a series of attacks by Al Qaeda and Taliban linked during the past week.
One official said the death toll could rise as the police station have collapsed after the explosion and the workers tried to rescue people trapped in rubble. The attack took place in the town of Lakki Marwat.
Nine policemen and eight civilians were killed, police official Islam Asghar told Reuters by telephone.
Another police official said some children were also among the dead, the suicide bomber also struck a school van before crashing into the back wall of the police station. He said that 34 people including 20 policemen, were injured. – Reuters
