Pakistan News : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim said law and order must be maintained in Pakistan before the general elections or havoc and chaos will ensue in the country. The CEC made this statement during a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to finalize the security plan for the upcoming general elections.
The meeting is being attended by representatives from the provincial governments, Defence Ministry, Interior Ministry, FC and Rangers.
A decision on where the army will be deployed to maintain law and order during the election is expected to be taken during the meeting and other security plans are also likely to be mapped out.
Security plans are being laid out in light of growing concerns as violence grips various cities of the country. The election campaign in Punjab is continuing smoothly, however the rest of the federating units are suffering from deadly violence with political parties demanding level playing field in the run-up for the May 11 polls.
