Pak lost 90bn in electricity theft

Pakistan, Business News – Pakistan lost Rs 90 billion during the last five years in electricity theft and line losses, the Senate, upper house of the Pakistani parliament was told on Friday.

State Minister for Water and Power Tasnim Qureshi told the house that ‘a big mafia was behind the huge electricity theft.

The Senate session chaired by Nayar Hussain Bokhari was told by the ministry in written that FESCO, GEPCO, LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO, SEPCO, HESCO, PEPCO, and KESCO lost Rs600 million, Rs360 million, Rss2.35billion, Rs280 million, Rs3.66 billion, Rs7.47 billion, Rs16.17 billion, Rs59billion and Rs90 lost respectively on account of theft and line losses.
