World News – The US Senate on Tuesday gave approval to the nomination of Senator John Kerry as US Secretary of State with a majority vote.
In the voting, 94 members of the Senate favored Kerry’s nomination while on three members casted their votes in negative. Current US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is completing her term on Friday while Senator John Kerry will succeed her.
Earlier, US President Barack Obama expressed the hope that the US Senate will approve Kerry’s nomination for the slot.
John Kerry has served for 28 years as member of the US Senator on Foreign Relations while he headed the some committee four times during the period. He was also a US presidential candidate of Democrats in 2004.
