Pakistan Elected as D-8 Ministerial Council Head

Pakistan News / Islamabad News > Pakistan has been elected as President of the D-8 Ministerial Council for a two-year term.

Addressing the council members after taking the charge of president, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar stressed the need for greater economic cooperation between the member countries of Developing-8 Nations (D-8).

She said that D-8 nations should fully exploit their potential for the betterment of their people, adding for the sustainable development private sector of the respective countries should be involved in the process of the economic integration.

Khar underlined that Pakistan offers great potential for cooperation in sectors like agriculture and energy, adding D-8 investors should avail opportunities in these sectors.

She also underscored the need for having regulars meetings of the D-8 nations specifically for the promotion of investment in each others’ countries, adding that economic progress is pivotal for peace and stability in the region.

Referring to regional political situation, Pakistan foreign minister said that Islamabad strongly condemns Israeli atrocities in Gaza. She said that Pakistan also wants to see peace and economic progress in Afghanistan.
