Pakistan News / Kamra Air Base Attack > Armed forces have completed an operation on Thursday launched after a brazen attack on Minhas Airbase at Kamra, killing all eight militants while one officer embraced martyrdom.
Officials of the Pakistan Air Force confirmed that militants attempted to barge into heavily guarded Minhas airbase in the wee of Thursday (2.10 AM). Militants were immediately spotted and challenged following which a gun battle ensued that lasted for several hours. Commandos were called in to reinforce and police armored personnel carriers could seen heading into the base.
A PAF spokesman said that eight militants and one soldier were killed while four PAF officers including base commander Air Commodore Mohammad Azam got injured. A military aircraft was also damaged in the attack.
The attackers moved through a nearby village under cover of darkness and climbed a nine foot (2.7 meter) wall strung with barbed wire to break into the base. Some were wearing military uniforms.
The spokesman further said that body of a terrorist with suicide vest on was found in the operation, adding the process to identify him is in progress.
Security forces, especially the Army and PAF’s commandoes, conducted the operation after cordoning off the entire area. All hospitals in the area had declared emergency.
A source said some of the terrorists seem to be foreigners.
