Pakistan News / Islamabad News > Parliamentary Committee formed to evolve consensus on appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Monday unanimously tapped Justice (rtd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim to become the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). The final approval will be given by President Asif Ali Zardari.
The opposition put forward names of Justice (rtd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice (rtd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post; while, the government presented the names of Justice (rtd) Amirul Mulk Mengal, Justice (rtd) Muneer A. Sheikh and Justice (rtd) Naseem Sikandar. After a brainstorming session, the government and the opposition reached consensus over the name of Justice FG Ebrahim.
Formally announcing the consensus name picked up for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Khurshid Shah said the government established new tradition by accepting the name proposed by the opposition, adding all the matters will be tackled with mutual consultation.
