Asma Jahangir quits as a Haqqani lawyer
Pakistan News/Islamabad: The Leading Lawyer Asma Jahangir refuses to plead for Husain Haqqani in the Memo gate scandal case on Sunday, January 01, 2012.
She announced that former US envoy to search another lawyer to represent him in the Supreme Court as well as Judicial Commission.
A nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry last week set a commission comprising the Chief Justices of the High Courts of Islamabad, Balochistan and Sindh for the same.
She said, “And if nine judges of the Supreme Court can be under their influence, then I am sorry to say I cannot have any prospect from High Court judges, who are under the court.”
She stated that “Should we close our eyes? Should we allow ourselves to be fooled? I have told my client he can appear before the commission if he wants to, and he will go. I have no confidence at all,”
Asma said “This is the court’s order and we have to follow it but I told him to contact with some other lawyer,”
