He was addressng a Parliamentary Hearing at UN Headquarters on the theme of “Youth Participation in the Democratic Process.”

Naek said efforts are underway to increase and diversify avenues for youth to discuss national issues, engage with national leaders, and participate in discussion on what is important for Pakistan.

The current democratic government as well as Parliament in Pakistan are encouraging the young people to become good and highly productive citizens by teaching them values of patriotism, democratic engagement and broadening their perspectives through political education, interaction, exchange, mobility and communication.

A number of projects are in the pipeline to underscore the importance  of political awareness among our youth, he told the gathering.

The chairman Seante said Pakistan’s priorities include promoting positive political interest and motivation among young people, leading to deeper democracy and strengthening of the political leadership base.  Moreover, keeping in view the importance of youth’s participation in different institutional structures, Pakistan has also initiated national internship programme.

Debates in Youth Parliament Pakistan are meant not only to help young  members in their personal development as useful citizens but they also serve the purpose of articulating their views on vital issues facing the nation and conveying these to the Government.

“I am optimistic that deliberations made during the course of this parliamentary hearing would prove fruitful and help member parliaments  take measures conducive to maximizing youth participation in democratic process,” Naek noted.
