Islamabad: Federal Minister for Textile, Makhdoom Shahabuddin said on Tuesday that Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s decision to quit the party would not affect the position of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Addressing a press conference along with Central Information Secretary of PPP Qamar Zaman Kaira here, the minister observed that Mr. Qureshi had never been sincere to the party.
“Mr.Qureshi is known for changing the party on the basis of his self-interest”, he remarked.
Responding to a question, he said that Shah Mahmood Qureshi was never stopped from attending the meeting of Central Executive Committee of PPP.
“It is the beauty of democracy to tolerate the criticism even from the persons within the party and there are many people in the party including Dr. Safdar Abbasi, who have difference of opinion with the party leadership and they are still members of the PPP”, he added.
He said that when Shah Mehmood Qureshi lost his portfolio of Foreign Minister he started criticizing the party leadership.
Makhdoom Shahabuddin, who is also President of PPP Southern Punjab, said that President Asif Ali Zardari had reposed trust in him by assigning him the duty to strengthen the party and organize party workers in Southern Punjab.
“I will try my best to come up to the expectation of the President and the top leaders of party”, he added.
Responding to another question, the minister said that the PPP supported the old demand of people of Southern Punjab for a separate province consisting of three divisions of the region including Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
