Ups and downs in PAK – US relationship

Latest News / Pakistan – Pakistan has been a strong US ally, and since birth they have been in strong bilateral ties, Before 9/11 Pakistan have been  a great supporter of Taliban for bringing stability in the region  after decades of civil war in Afghanistan, E Pakistan News Reported.


Ups and downs in Pakistan US relationSupport of US was first hand financially and politically during that time .But after 9/11 Pervez Musharraf changed course and joined hands with US, and became the vital player in the War against terrorism.


Since then the stress in the political and diplomatic relations have been observed, As Taliban have targeted Pakistan in return.


Waziristan operation has been the key point in worsening the Pak US relation ship, as it was the start of a new War.


Thousands of innocent Pakistanis lost their lives in the Waziristan mission , drone attacks were condemned by the Pakistani Parliament , but  they dint stop ,According to a recent report published by the Government of Pakistan  in more than 44 attacks 708 people have been killed, in which only eight were Taliban militants and the rest were innocent people.


Moreover nearly 2.3 million people have been displaced from their homes due to the ongoing war in Waziristan.


The government of Pakistan have kept the death toll hidden due to the large scale public back lash.


On 14 September 2009, former President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, acknowledged that U.S. Foreign Aid to Pakistan was diverted by the country from its original purpose to fighting the Taliban, to formulate for war against adjoining India.


The United States government has replied by stating that they will take these accusations seriously



The Pak Us relationship got hit again when the Raymond Davis scandal roared on media .Where three people were dead after Raymond opened fire, saying that it was in self defense.


When the issue went public, it became difficult for the government to handle and thus they have to take serious action against him, even on the call of US government saying that Raymond must be given diplomatic immunity he was arrested. Thus stress raised in pak us relationship.


Death of Osama Bin Ladin on the soil of Pakistan has been the next step in creating troubles in relations on both sides. Several allegations were made that the government of Pakistan was tangled in protecting Bin Laden.


U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, said “This is going to be a time of real pressure on Pakistan to basically prove to us that they didn’t know that Bin Laden was there”


The foreign minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar will be undertaking a visit of the United States in third week of September when she will be scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit session.


She will be meeting the leadership of number of countries during her stay in New York including some US high-ups. Her meeting with her US equal Hillary Clinton can’t be ruled out during her all significant trip to the UN headquarters and the United States.


In her first visit to the UN headquarters and the US, she will also attend an important meeting of contact group on Kashmir in the UN building.


Pak-Us relationship is going through a very critical phase where one wrong decision may end up in creating more stress on both sides.
