He pointed out that expected cuts to officer numbers would make policing any future similar disturbances even harder.


He also discarded the Conservatives’ criticism of their policy, saying “the allegation that my officers acted nervously is extremely spiteful”.


He added that he anticipated 3,000 people to go to court over the riots.
