President Asif Ali Zardari directed to BISP to issue cash grants among the poor through Benazir Smart Cards (BSC) across Pakistan, as a substitute of Post Offices to stay away from stoppage and other complaints in the present delivery system on Friday.
Spokesman President Farhatullah Babar told that the President also asked NADRA to much reduce the charges of Benazir Smart Card so that it was easily reasonably priced.
The President also advised all the leading commercial banks to partner with BISP in introducing the Smart Cards in all parts of the country and easy to use ATM-friendly.
The President appreciated the Banks which have shown willingness to partner with BISP in completion of Benazir Smart Card programme.
He lauded the efforts of all worried in introducing this technology-based solution to the poorest section of the society and said that this would help the government to implement a complete financially comprehensive system to the poor.
Federal Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Federal Minister for Water & Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Secretary General to the President M. Salman Faruqui, Chairperson BISP Ms. Farzana Raja, Acting Governor State Bank Yasin Anwar, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, Chairman NADRA and other senior officials were present in this meeting.
Presidents or heads of Commercial Banks including HBL, NBP, Alfalah, Tameer, Summit, Al-Habib and UBL were also present in this meeting.
Spokesman of President said that due to a variety of complaints in delivery mechanism of BISP benefits to the beneficiaries, BISP was directed to approve more efficient and technologically advanced instrument of delivering BISP funds through the BSC.
The meeting was knowledgeable that the various banks have point out their choices of districts of operations and Governor SBP would soon convene a meeting to decide allotments of districts to various banks.
The Spokesman Farhatullah Babar told that the President Asif Ali Zardari during the meeting, appreciated BISP team for making the programme a transparent, apolitical and largest social protection programme of the country.
The President said that BSC was planned to be used not only for cash transfers but also for other BISP benefits like health insurance.
The President Asif Ali Zardari also lauded the promise and untiring efforts of Chairperson BISP Ms. Farzana Raja.
