Pakistan News: The national carrier came into full swing on Saturday by operating 45 domestic and 35 international fights carrying around 15,000 passengers after four-day strike of PIA employees. The first international flight left to New-York from Lahore Airport and domestic from Islamabad to Karachi this morning.
The spokesman of PIA Mashood Tajwar told APP, on Saturday that now the management’s top priority was to clear backlog of 50,000 passengers after resumption of flight service and it would take two to three days.
Overall 500 flights have been canceled in four-day strike of workers of PIA employees Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and now the management is making assessment of exact financial loss.
He said all sections of PIA were now fully operational and resumed its domestic and international flights from Islamabad,Karachi and Lahore and on almost all its international air routes on Saturday.
The spokesman said that four-day strike likely cost Rs 2 billion loss, adding the national carrier which is already facing deficit of Rs. 13 billion will touches a figure of Rs.15 during current fiscal year.
He said that employees should now work hard for the betterment of the airline as their demands have been met and extending full cooperation to new MD PIA in the larger interest of the country.
PIA employees ended their strike following successful talks with the authorities and resignation of Ijaz Haroon from the post of Managing Director.
