Pakistan News Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday said that joint efforts were needed to promote the values of a tolerant society, and won extremism and terrorism.
He was speaking at a one day seminar on the role of educational broadcasters in the eradication of the growing trend of intolerance and violence in society held at the Allama Iqbal Open University here.
Kaira said that our society becomes stagnant and intellectuals and universities should play a constructive role in launching a dialogue on the issue of extremism. He said that politicians, the military and the media can be a tool in the dialogue will be launched by the intellectuals, but it is mostly the academic field to begin the dialogue.
He said the spiritual movements worldwide was launched in academic institutions and that it was high time that writers and intellectuals began a process of thought to clean up society new threat of terrorism and extremism.
Kaira said today, when the lives of all Pakistanis has been affected by the war against terrorism and extremism in society, some people have thought and said it was not our war.
He said that Pakistan has always been a very tolerant society until the 1970s, but was deliberately turned into an extremist of the international powers, with the complicity of governments, then to achieve their own agenda.
Today, when the world wants to eradicate extremism, is said Western powers were using the same extremist elements in their own creations, says Kaira.
Even today, when we fight against terrorism, the West has only come to our rescue when the threat was affected, he added.
He said that the extremist mentality was present in all corners of the country and we must overcome our using words as weapons to positively transform people’s minds.
Kaira said that Pakistan faces many challenges, but the greatest of these was the threat of terrorism and extremism.
He said that since the day the government came to power, has taken several steps to overcome the crisis.
We have introduced constitutional reforms, political and administrative, but there are many questions that remain unresolved, “he said.
He said the history of this region has been ruled for centuries by foreign powers, most of whom were tyrants. He said although Pakistan was created in the name of Islam through democratic means and, later, unfortunately, we could promote a democratic culture, as envisioned by our ancestors.
