CAIRO: Protest death raise 100

CAIRO: President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt under attack head of military intelligence tapped as its first vice president and appointed a new prime minister on Saturday, as a mass revolt against his autocratic rule has been extended into a fifth day.

Fresh rioting has killed 22 people in the town of Beni Suef, south of Cairo, where protesters tried to burn a police station, witnesses and security sources.

Three protesters were killed in Cairo and three policemen were killed in the Sinai town of Rafah, in at least 102 the number of people killed since the unrest erupted on Tuesday, including 33 on Saturday, medics said.

Like tens of thousands of people from downtown Cairo demanding his resignation, President Mubarak in crisis meeting with officials, after which it was announced that Mubarak confidant of General Omar Suleiman was sworn in as his deputy.AFP
