LAHORE: The Punjab government plans to save Rs1.5 billion by eliminating or reducing various project management units and enterprises and to reduce their payroll by February 14.
Sirdar Zulfikar Khosa provincial advisor also announced during a press conference Sunday that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the recommendations of a committee of the Cabinet to scrap 550 jobs in senior management and the Punjab police, who keep Rs6.1 million dollars annually.
The recommendations for the abolition of the posts had been made by the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police and forwarded to the Minister Chief of Staff for the committee chaired by Mr. Khosa on Friday.
According to sources, huge amounts are spent to run multiple units and project management of institutions under the Punjab government, whose officials have been getting better pay than benefits and the most senior secretary in Head and GI.
The provincial government has set up several companies to perform the functions of district governments and transportation and housing ministries.
Political leaders and retired employees and officials working in a transport and two real estate companies have been drawing salaries heavy bureaucracy by creating disorder.

The sources said that all such arrangements outside the government have been eliminated or reduced.

Up to 89 senior positions in the Police BS-17 BS-21 will be deleted. They include three additional posts of IGS (BS-21) – AIG, inspection, AIG, Sihala, and AIG, research and development. Nine posts of BS-20 will be eliminated – namely sports director, Rawalpindi VVIP security social YOU DIG Crimes Branch, Punjab Constabulary Assistant Chief hollow administration in Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan and graves, investigations, Rawalpindi.
BS-19 post of SSP, the Special Branch, Lahore, and seven SP BS-18 posts would be deleted. They include the coordination SPS and local police in Lahore, Rawalpindi Security SP, SP administration Multan, fingerprints SP SP Investigation Branch and vice president of research and development of the Special Branch.
Another 69 posts in BS-17, SDPOs, held by DSP and ASP promoted directly contracted, are eliminated. Officials said most jobs were created in the Special Branch during its expansion in recent years.
