Iran Nuclear Talks Disappointment, But Not Broken

ISTANBUL: The inconclusive ending a two-day meeting between the six world powers and Iran over its nuclear program was “disappointing”, but there was no breakdown in negotiations, a senior U.S. official said Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after the talks ended without any concrete results or even agree to meet again, “the official said” serious differences remained.

During the talks, Iran had refused a request to hold a bilateral agreement with the U.S. delegation led by Under Secretary for Political Affairs Bill Burns.

Since the fall of the American-backed Shah of Iran in 1979, direct contacts with the United States and the Islamic Republic is rare, and usually took place behind the scenes.
