MULTAN: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Baloch people are true patriots because they played a vital role in the creation of Pakistan.
He was answering a question on Sunday about the arrest of Shahzain Bugti, at the residence of local politician Makhdoom Syed Hassan Raza where he had gone to condole with him the death of his son.
Mr Gilani said the government did not want to arrest any innocent person and there was no political prisoner at present in the country.
The premier said he would discuss the issue of Shahzain Bugti with Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani who would accompany him during his visit to Oman on Monday. He, however, added that it was a provincial matter.
He said that Benazir Bhutto assassination case was being heard by a court of law and only the court could bring back former dictator Pervez Musharraf through Interpol.
Mr Gilani said that the backbone of terrorists had been broken and now they were on the run.
“The strongholds of terrorists have been destroyed and now they are attacking soft targets. This time a woman has been used as a suicide bomber,” he said in an apparent reference to Saturday’s terrorist attack in Bajaur Agency.
He appealed to people to inform the government about the ‘black sheep’ so that they could be brought to justice.
The prime minister said drone attacks were proving to be counter-productive in the fight against terrorism, adding Pakistan was trying to obtain drone technology from the US so that it be used where it was needed.
Drone attacks by the US, he pointed out, were creating problems for Pakistan and affecting the war on terror.
