PESHAWAR: Prolific Pakistani swimmer Kiran Khan won five gold medals on the opening day of the women’s swimming competition at the 31st National Games on Thursday.
Kiran, who is representing Pakistan Army at the National Games, won gold in the 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke events. She was also part of the Army team that won gold in the 200m relay gold at the Islamabad Sports Complex.
Army now lead the medals table, with nine medals (six gold and three silver) and 137 points. Their sixth gold came from Ghulam Sakeena, who won the 400m individual medley event.
Sindh are placed second with three silver and five bronze medals and have posted 80 points on the board. Meanwhile, Wapda won their solitary medal when they finished third in the 400m freestyle relay event.
The National Games are officially set to get underway on December 25, in Peshawar. However, the women’s swimming event, being held in Islamabad for lack of security cover and facilities, began on Thursday.
