ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was a very important agency and that its officials could not be forced to appear before courts in the United States.
Addressing a session of the National Assembly, Gilani said that before launching military operations in Swat and South Waziristan, the government had taken the country’s political leaders into confidence. He stated that the government would not take any dictation over a military operation in North Waziristan.
The government will decide where and when there would and could be a military operation, Gilani asserted, adding that the war against terror will continue.
Prime Minister Gilani further said that the people of Balochistan were patriotic and had rendered many sacrifices for the country. He said Frontier Constabulary Balochistan operated under the government’s directives and could not deviate from that practice. Moreover, he said foreign powers were involved in the unrest in the troubled southwestern province.
The premier said that the whole nation is against the menace of terrorism. He affirmed that investment would not come into the country till complete peace is established. The PM hinted at involvement of foreign hand behind the Balochistan unrest.
Gilani told the National Assembly that the Frontier Constabulary could not act without Balochistan government’s nod. He said that no compromise would be made on country’s sovereignty and integrity..
