LALAMUSA: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira Monday said that President Asif Ali Zardari has responded to the letter of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in detail with thanks.
Talking to media-persons here at Daira Kaira, he said, in reply the president said that the government has adopted various measures regarding national issues pointed out by Mian Nawaz Sharif in his letter.
He said, the first budget of the present government was made by the then Finance Minister Ishaq Dar of PML-N, who underlined the problems and poor economic condition, which were inherited by the government.The minister said that reforms are essential in tax system to streamline the economic condition of the country, but we are not imposing any new tax.
He added that the government is endeavouring to bring down the tax rate to 15 percent from the present 17 to 25 percent, which would help reduce taxes already imposed on oil, power, imports and exports.
Kaira said that the tax evaders are making hue and cry on suggested Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) and added that everyone would have to pay due tax.
The minister categorically said that the government is not imposing any new tax on the advice of any international agency. He said that the government had asked Mian Nawaz Sharif to depute his own team and we are ready to work under it for the benefit of the economy.
To a question, he said Maulana Fazl ur Rehman has parted ways with the government,but it would not impact the government. We want to maintain reconciliatory atmosphere in the country, he added.
He said the RGST bill would be presented in the National Assembly after removing the reservations of all the parties. He added, RGST has been already passed by the Senate and now it is with the respective standing committee of the parliament.
He further said it would be presented in the National Assembly after it is cleared by the standing committee.
The minister said, democracy is flourishing in the country which has been witnessed by the people during the recent visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
He said, the participation of all political leaders in banquet by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani shows our unity on national issues, adding that, it is a sign of political maturity.
Kaira said, electricity generation would improve in the next summer after completion of the under-construction projects.
The reforms are also being brought in the railways on priority basis in collaboration with China, he added.
He said the Prime Minister had already issued necessary instructions to overcome the crisis of natural gas in Punjab.
The minister said, the 50 percent increase in the salary of government employees and provision of twelve and a half percent shares to workers were the hallmark of the present government.
Kaira said, the PPP-led coalition government would continue the politics of reconciliation to bring the country out of crises.
The PPP would field its candidates in 2013 general election by virtue of its marvellous achievements, he said.
