TEHRAN: A suicide bomber wounded more than 50 people at a mosque in the southeastern Iranian city of Chabahar on Wednesday as Shiites marked the climax of Ashura, the official IRNA news agency reported.
“We have no word yet of any deaths but between 50 and 60 people have been admitted to hospital,” local member of parliament Mohammad Yaghoub Jadghal told the news agency.
“The terrorist attack targeted pilgrims outside the Imam Hossein Mosque” in the town in Sistan-Baluchestan province, he added.
Unlike most of Iran, Sistan-Baluchestan has a significant Sunni community and has seen persistent unrest in recent years by the Sunni militant group Jundallah. – AFP
