LAHORE: Federal Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Babar Awan has challenged PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif that the Punjab government should hold local bodies elections in the province to see who is really popular.
Addressing PPP workers at the residence of a worker here on Sunday, he said the policy of reconciliation was not a compulsion for the Pakistan People’s Party in the Punjab, adding that it was following the policy only to strengthen democracy in the country.
He said that an insult to the mandate in Punjab would not be tolerated and anti-people policies were not acceptable.
He demanded an urgent announcement of elections of student organisations in colleges and universities He said Mian Nawaz Sharif had said that governance was not good. “Yes, he is right. Governance is not good in the province and he says it to his younger brother,” he added.
He said loot sale was being atempted on private institutions after public institutions by occupying petrol pumps in the province.
He said the PPP was always with labourers and it would never allow any body to end employment of workers of these petrol pumps.
He called the Ashiana Housing Project as “Afsana Housing Project” and said it was also a fake project like Sasti Roti Programme.
The minister asked why Mian Nawaz had not spoken for students, teachers and lawyers who were tortured in his province for protesting for their rights? Babar said social and financial murder of labourers, workers and children of the deprived class would not be allowed.
He said the PML-N chief coulnd not listen to the common people but he should listen to his own voters who were protesting against his brother on roads.
He said that main source of power was the people and every political party had to turn to the masses, adding the PPP would sacrifice for democracy as it did in the past.
He congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari on signing the gas pipeline project by four countries and said that it was initiated by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed 14 years ago.
The minister said PPP workers would continue the mission of backing poor people which was introduced by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and added that no one could stop them from following the vision of their Shaheed leaders. – APP
