ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari laid stress for an improved communication network between Pakistan and China on wednesday to boost Pak-China trade and provide easy access to markets in Gulf countries.
Talking to Gao Hucheng, a representative of China International Trade, here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President discussed matters relating to cooperation in economy, trade and investment, infrastructure development, banking operations, roads and communication networks.
The President said, “the Chinese have expertise and Pakistan offers opportunities to strengthen existing equation with more investment and economic cooperation”.
He said the two-way trade was far below the real trade potential and the government was focusing on enhancing trade volume with China to take advantage of real potential of time-tested and all weather friendship between the two countries.The President hoped that Pakistan-China Joint Investment Company (JIC), which was established to facilitate investment, would provide impetus to attract more investments in the country.Highlighting Chinese investment in various areas, the President said there was scope to further explore possibilities of investment for the mutual benefit.
The President hoped the 14th Pak-China Joint Economic Committee (JEC) would be instrumental in further promoting mutual cooperation and trade. He said it would result in productive deliberations on financing of important projects by Chinese banks, besides reviewing implementation of decisions taken earlier, bilateral trade between the two countries and Pak-China Five-Year Development Programme on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The Chinese delegation included He Yiming, DG Commerce Bureau, He Rouqun, DG Bureau of Commerce, Yu Jianhua, DG Department of International and Economic Affairs, Ms. Gao Yuan Yuanyuan, Deputy DG Department of Aid to Foreign Countries and Wang Shengwen, Deputy DG Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian.
