ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is directed by Supreme Court of Pakistan on tuesday to arrest the main culprits in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam, including Chairman NICL Ayaz Khan Niazi and Mohsin Warraich without delay.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, heard a suo motu case regarding the alleged violation of rules by Chairman NICL in the procurement of land on highly enhanced rates and causing a huge financial loss to the national exchequer.
During the hearing, DG FIA apprised the court that Habibullah Warraich had been arrested by the agency and that Interpol had issued a red warrant for the arrest of his son Mohsin Warraich who would soon be arrested.
He also informed the court that the FIA had placed Ayaz Khan’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) and that search operations were continuing for his arrest.
After hearing the arguments, Chief Justice Iftikhar remarked that the main culprit in the scam had still not been arrested and that the court would not tolerate the corruption as public money had been looted in the scam.
Chief Justice Iftikhar also reprimanded Secretary Commerce for not cooperating in the case and directed him to extend full cooperation to the FIA.
Later, the Supreme Court adjourned the case’s hearing for three weeks
