That’s right. 14 years old and 7 feet tall, and guess who’s found him? NBA scouts. If you haven’t clicked that link, please do so just to notice just how big this kid is. It’s incredible. I would have LOVED to have just two inches less of that kid’s height- I wanted to be 6’11”, but God had other plans. But, that’s enough of that.
I have a fear for these kids of modern day’s time. These things were happening back in my teenage time as well, I’m sure, but not that much. That is to say, not to the point where scouts openly showed interest in a “project” for all the world to see. These days, I’m not sure if it’s just because information is so much easier accessible or do they simply just don’t care anymore. Either way, it never fails to be disgusting to me that these kids get exposed to the business of sports; you know, before they can actually just enjoy it for what it is, and not for what it’s worth. I disagree with showing the pee-wee games under the (to me) sickening guise of “We just love watching these kids play.” These kids are clearly being herded into professionalism, they play the game on such a serious note that they tend to play even harder than adults- most likely because of that open, youthful mind. That youthful mind, like the color gray… it’s not sure if it’s a dark color or a light color, so while it’s trying to figure that out, business come to fuck it for all it’s worth.
In the kid’s defense, this could be a grand opportunity. With a good mind and the right… no. Not “the right” heart. But, instead, with a good mind and a righteous heart, he could prove to be something very special. However, with youth, and tons of money falling into your lap (and with other things that come into your lap when such notoriety is achieved), it’s extremely easy to get lost into a lifestyle that is unbecoming of the soul that is in said lifestyle. But, surely, if he can hold on and stay on the right path (not that he won’t fall here and there, which is perfectly understandable… he is human, after all), then he will be something that is plain incredible for the world to see.
Please pray for he and many other kids like him, that they will be able to make up their own mind with clear judgement. And that they won’t fall prey to the system (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Socially, that’s a part of the system that always wins, but is irrelevant) that chews up and spits out so many.
Peace and Blessings,
