Alam: Management unaware over Haider flight

intikhab AlamDUBAI:The reports suggesting management had prior knowledge that wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider was leaving the team hotel or had received threats from unknown people are denied by Pakistan cricket manager Intikhab Alam on Wednesday.

Alam confirms unawareness of the team management regarding Haider’s plans.

Alam told in an interview that,“This is irresponsible to say that the management knew of Haider’s plans to flee to London,We only came to know it around noon after we contacted Dubai police and gave them a copy of his passport.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will launch an inquiry into Haider’s case.

Alam said Dubai Police informed them of Haider’s departure for London, his words were;“When Haider did not board the bus to the ground on Monday we contacted the police and after some time they told us that a passenger by that name had left for London in the morning,”

“How can you blame the team management, we had no clue of any threats and his programme, and Haider has himself admitted that he didn’t tell anyone and took his passport on the pretext of getting a mobile sim (card),”

Lorgat told reporters at ICC headquarters “We don’t want to make much comment on Haider’s case as the investigations were on.The ICC’s anti-corruption unit is dealing with the matter and I can say that they have met the players and we are engaged with the PCB in the follow-up of the case.”

Haider offered, If the government gives him full security he will return to Pakistan.

Haider told Geo news channel on Tuesday.“I had received serious threats,I can only return to Pakistan if the government gives me full security as my family and me are under threats.”

Haider’s father Raza told the same channel that he had talked to his son.

“I talked to him and have advised him to re-join the team in Dubai without any fears. Its Allah Almighty who decides our fate, so we must not get frightened by death threats.” Alam later told reporters at Dubai Globla cricket academy that Haider was clean and not involved in any wrongdoings.

Alam told reporters “Haider broke our trust, but I can say with confidence that he is a clean person and was not involved in anything wrong,I think there is some mental problem with him.
