Chief Justice hopes parliament will review judges appointment system

ISLAMABAD:  A rules and regulations draft pertaining to the appointment of judges,has been approved by the Judicial Commission on Saturday.

The inaugural meeting of the commission, under the supervision of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Chief Justice Supreme Court of pakistan, was held on the apex court’s premises.
While addressing the meeting, Chief Justice Iftikhar narated his hope that the parliament will take a look over the new system of judges’ appointment and consider the concerns of the judiciary in this regard.
The commission included Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed, Law Minister Babar Awan, Justice (Rtd) Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, and Pakistan Bar Council nominee Dr Khalid Ranjha. Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court (FSC), Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, was also attending the meeting. Twenty-five representatives of the FSC and the four High Courts were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, Justice Shakirullah Jan was unable to attend the today’s meeting as he was out of the country.
